The first soldiers of a German brigade assigned to Lithuania will arrive in Vilnius on Monday, writes Delfi.

More than 20 German soldiers will form the main team of the headquarters of the 45th Brigade Lietuva (Lithuania). Along with them, the commander of the German Armed Forces Land Forces, Alfons Meiss, will arrive in Vilnius.

Germany plans to deploy in Lithuania a heavy brigade with three maneuver battalions and all necessary means, including combat support units. A total of about five thousand German soldiers and civilians are expected to be stationed in Lithuania.

The main part of the brigade is expected to be transferred to Lithuania by 2026. They will be stationed in two places - at the Rudninkai firing range (20 kilometers from the Belarusian border) and in Rukla (northeast of Kaunas).

In the summer of 2022, Germany promised to deploy a brigade-size military unit in Lithuania. The agreement was signed by Olaf Scholz and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
