Zeltser's mother begs Lukashenka to free her son

Zmitser Harachka, the lawyer for the arrested US citizen, Emanuel Zeltser, has filed a fresh motion, seeking to free his client from pretrial detention on the grounds of Zeltser's poor health condition. The American has already spent three months in Belarusian custody.
Zmitser Harachka said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus:

"Today, I filed the petition to the investigator and will wait for an answer or three days".

Harachka says that Zeltser feels very bad, also because he has been denied medication prescribed by his physician.

Meanwhile, Zeltser's 92-year-old mother has appealed to Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenka, asking him "to save her son's life". She writes that Emanuel Zeltser is "dying in a KGB prison".

US-based lawyer Emanuel Zeltser was arrested in the Minsk airport immediately on arrival from London on March 12. He is facing charges of document forgery committed by a group of people. According to the Belapan news agency, officials do not reveal the details of the case, because it is classified as a state secret.
