Vandals damage Ukraine poet's monument in Mahilou again (photo)

Taras Shevchenko monument has been damaged in Mahilyou again. Deputy head of the Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada) Ihar Barysau has reported the issue to the police. He is asking the police to investigate the case of vandalism and make the administration of October District install security cameras along the Dnieper quay and enhance the protection of the monument to Shevchenko.

The letters were also removed from the monument in January, on the eve of the Ukrainian Day of Unity.

The bust was installed on the quay of the Dnieper in 2005. The installation was initiated by the local Ukrainian community. A big Ukrainian delegation and the administration of Mahilyou Province attended the opening ceremony. Local Ukrainians often gather near the monument and light candles there.
