United opposition names members for electoral commissions

The united pro-democracy forces (UDF) have drawn up the list of people the opposition wants to enter the electoral commissions. The list includes former speakers of parliament Stanislau Shushkevich and Mechyslau Hryb, former ministers Alexander Sasnou and Pavel Kazlouski, former lawmakers, etc. Belapan reminds that the Central Elections Commission has rejected the draft provisions, proposed by the opposition to democratize the existing electoral laws. Nevertheless, the United Pro-Democracy Forces demand to have their representatives included into the electoral commissions. They describe this demand as a minimal condition for democratic elections.

The opposition has put forward only one name per each constituency to act as a member of the election commission. The final list of opposition nominees will be approved by UDF's Political Council on June 8.
