United Civic Party to hold congress without city hall's approval

The next congress of the United Civic Party (UCP) will take place on April 20 in Minsk even if no formal approval is received from the authorities, party chairman Anatol Lyabedzka said in a statement Tuesday.  It hs been over one month that UCP cannot find a venue for the congress. Party's 20 applications were rejected.

Lyabedzka describes the actions of official at Minsk City Hall as "a planned provocation", which aims "to prevent us from holding a congress or to create as much hurdles as possible for us".

UCP leader Anatol Lyabedzka today made an open appeal in this regard to the Belarus's Prosecutor General and the Minister of Justice, reports Belapan
