The teachers of the Belarusian National Technical University stood trial in Minsk on January 18.

Uladzimir Sobaleu, 74, Alyaksandr Chychko, 57, and Volha Chychko, 56, are accused of power abuse. According to investigators, they organized a temporary scientific research group and used it to misappropriate money without conducting any research, Komsomolskaya Pravda reports. The teachers misappropriated budget money and the loss suffered by the state totalled 170 million roubles, the investigators think.

The suspects registered software for physical entities violating the legal standards, BELTA reports. The actions violated BNTU’s right for scientific research results.

The teachers have pled not guilty.
