The Belarusian police lack power. The state leader does not mind giving power to the police so that "policemen would not have to go back to one and the same place many times to demand that people obeyed the law."

Ex-Minister Yury Sivakou thinks that the police have enough power. He advised to think about increasing the prestige of the service first.

Retired police general-lieutenant Mechyslau Hryb agrees with it.

Mechyslau Hryb: "The executive power should not interfere in the work of the police if the police observe the law. But they do interfere! Otherwise, I do not think the police need more power."

In his opinion, the police have enough power but the wages are low. To solve the problem, the staff responsible for fighting dissidence should be reduced.

Euroradio asked the head of a district police department about the things the police lacked. He complained about bureaucracy and obstacles created by... the higher authorities.

Euroradio's interlocutor thinks that we should change people's consciousness first.

Head of a district Department of the Interior: "Our ex-Minister Navumau tried to make us goody-goodies . There were some surveys... What should the opinion about a penal organ be?! I don't know."
