Frontier guards: We sighed with relief when Russia didn't go to 1/4 finals

"Illegal immigrants actively stormed the green border these days. We can say there were a dozen and a half, mostly in the Polish direction. They came from the Afro-Asian region, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, bypassing the check-points", - spokesman of the Frontier Committee Uladzimir Tsishchanka has told Euroradio.

This means, they ran through the Polish border. It is interesting then, why they shortened a whole squad of frontier guards at the Polish section of the border before the championship, where there were illegal immigrants?

Let us remind you, before Euro-2012 Alyaksandr Lukashenka decided to transfer part of the frontier security forces to the Ukrainian border. As a result, there became fewer guards at the border with the European countries.

"They shortened one squad at the Polish direction and transferred the guards to the Southern section, having created two mobile squads there. The Southern direction has always been less protected. There have always been thrice more squads at the Polish direction. Therefore, everything is reasonable", - assures Uladzimir Tsishchanka.

Now the mobile squads catch armed fans at the border with Ukraine. They are transporting pneumatic and traumatic weapons to football games.

"Some people try to deliver pneumatic weapons in the Ukrainian direction, there have been several units. For instance, we detained a Russian citizen yesterday. However, it is unknown whether he is a football fan or not", - explains the spokesman.

Illegal immigrants do not go to Ukraine, there have become less of them during the championship. The frontier guards sigh with relief as Russia failed to make it to the quarter-finals.

"Russia did not make it to the quarter-finals and we sighed with relief as there won't be a stream of fans, as there have been no. Even if they come, they will support Spain or Portugal and there won't be many of them", - representatives of the Homel frontier security group say.

The Ukrainian frontier guards caught not a single illegal immigrant from the Belarusian side either.

"There have been no illegal immigrants from Belarus since the beginning of the year", - assures officer of the Ukrainian frontier security service Syarhei Astakhau.

As for the Poles, there have become more immigrants. 740 illegal immigrants at all border crossing points for three months. The Poles think that this is connected with good weather, not with football.

"We cannot say that the stream of illegal immigrants increased during the championship in particular. There has been an obvious growth of detentions within the last 70 days. However, our analysis shows that the reason for this is the weather and the atmosphere factor, not the Euro-2012", — spokesman of the Polish frontier security service Mariusz Skszynski says.

The majority of illegal immigrants are Ukrainians, but there have been also Russians, Belarusians and Vietnamese, they say in the Polish frontier security service. It turns out that nothing has changed either at the Polish border or at the Ukrainian one due to transfer of forces.
