PACE reminds Belarus about death penalty moratorium

The recent two cases of capital punishment in Belarus will be discussed during the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The head of the PACE Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has claimed it. According ITAR-TASS, he said that European parliamentarians expressed their disappointment about the practice that has been applied in the country for 15 years many times. “The Council of Europe has moral obligations to the Belarusian people”, noted Çavuşoğlu.

Let us remind you that information about two cases of death penalty in Belarus appeared in the middle of March. The two citizens were pronounced capital sentences for various crimes in 2009.

By the way, Belarus has become the only European country that has applied capital punishment since 2006.
