Oppositionists in Vitsebsk to defend Belarus soldiers

Opposition activists in Vitsebsk plan to stage a rally in defense of soldiers' rights. Pavel Levinau,a local human rights lawyer, has filed an application with the city authorities seeking to obtain a permit for the march.
Being a former trained officer, Levinau is well aware of the problems that Belarusian men and officers are often faced with. He hopes that the rally will draw attention of the public and the authorities to the fact that retired and serving soldiers do not have opportunities to use their rights.

Levinau also wants to express a protest against using soldiers at works not associated with the military service. The rally is scheduled for February 21. The city hall is expected to give a respond by February 15.
