Opposition approves election message for pro-democracy candidates

The Political Council of the United Pro-Democracy Forces (UDF) today approved the text of the message of democratic candidates for the fall 2008 parliamentary elections. According to Anatol Lyabedzka, one of UDF leaders and the chairman of the United Civic Party, "the bottom-line of this message is to call for people's control over the authorities". This thesis will be reflected in all campaign materials of pro-democracy candidates, reports Belapan.

"Today, the power finds itself outside of the parliamentary and public controls. This leads to economic, social and foreign political prolems. The power without control brings a lot of problems for the citizens of Belarus", Lyabedzka stressed.

He also noted that the message would also "explain the tools and mechanisms for the implementation of public control".
