Nigerian militants abduct six Russians

Six workers with the Russia Alluminium company have been kidnapped by unidentified militants in the south east of Nigeria.
The Russian Embassy in Nigeria confirmed that all of the six were Russian nationals.

The embassy spokesman Vladimir Shvarz noted no demands had been received yet from the kidnappers. But it is widely believed the workers were taken hostage in in order to receive ransom for their release.

According to Mr Shvarz, the kidnappers were on two minivans when they broke into the residential compound near the alluminium plant, took 6 Russians and shot their Nigerian driver dead.

Several dozens Russian workers are employed there with the RusAl, the world's biggest alluminium producer, reports the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
