A new oil field has been discovered in the Rechytsa district, BelTA reports with reference to Piotr Pouzhyk, Belarusneft's deputy general director for geology. The field is called Uskhodne-Nekrasauskaye.

Earlier, a subsalt structure was discovered there. A seismic survey was launched over an area of about 150 square kilometers. When a well was drilled, "we received a commercial inflow of oil at a rate of about 30 cubic meters per day," Pouzhyk said. The new field has yet to be included in the state balance sheet and its hydrocarbon reserves have yet to be calculated. According to preliminary estimates, they amount to at least 200 thousand tons.

It should be noted that oil has been produced in Belarus in limited quantities since the mid-60s of the twentieth century. Over 90 fields have been discovered. Last year, Belarusneft managed to produce a record of more than 1.8 million tons of its own oil.  At the same time, Belarus has to buy about 25 million tons a year from Russia for its refineries.

The Russian media neftegaz.ru, summarizing the results of Belarusneft last year, noted that "almost all the explored oil in Belarus is difficult to extract, while the exploited fields are at a late stage of development".
