New driving license to be introduced in Belarus

A new version of the Belarusian driving license will be introduced no later than July 1, 2010, Andryyan Machulski, a senior officer of the interior ministry’s traffic police department, told reporters in Minsk on Monday, BelaPAN reported.
Work on the new version continues. It began in pursuance of recent changes to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.

The new driving license will be in the form of a plastic card with several protection levels, including the holder’s signature and a hologram, Machulski said.

The list of vehicle categories will be extended by a motorcycle with an engine not less than 120 cubic meters, a passenger car with a trailer, a truck with a trailer and a bus with a trailer/articulated bus.
The license will cost between 30,000 and 35,000 rubels ($10.6 and $12.4 at present).
