Media legislation threatens Belarus banks

The media law draft, passed by the House of Representatives in the first reading, threatens the operation of the web sites owned by Belarusian banks, Siarhei Skarakhod, the head of Marketing.by internet portal said during the first open Belarusian forum of marketologists in Minsk.
"In my opinion, interent resources will be hit the most by this purely political legislation. I have information that several banks are going to close their internet sites," Skarakhod said.

Banks regularly update their web sites, thus making it a subject to the media law. "In this case, they have to get registered and create a legal entities with an editorial office. They will hardly want to do it. All they could do is to post a static advertising of their bank", Nasha Niva cites Charter'97.
