Lyabedzka: One in five candidates fail to register

The registration of candidates for parliament seats has been in progress in Belarus and will end on August 28. According to preliminary reports, local election commissions do not register every fifth representative of the opposition United Civic Party, the party leader Anatol Lyabedzka told the European Radio for Belarus.
"There is only information from 10-15 constituencies. In most places, candidates will be invited to election commissions tomorrow and will hear the registration decisions", he said.

Viktar Ivashkevich, a deputy chairman of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front, says he has no reports yet about the candidates registered from his party.

Valery Ukhnalyou, one of the leaders of the Belarusian Party of Communists, told the European Radio for Belarus that he has information about five candidates. Three were registered in Pinsk, Brest district Homel, while two of the party members were denied registration in Baranavichy and Schuchyn.
