Litvina: Media situation in Belarus has deteriorated catastrophically
Today's conference on democratization of the media in Belarus is the first since 2002 when representatives of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) gathered together with Belarus information minister at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, BAJ chairperson Zhanna Litvina told the European Radio for Belarus. “Decision was passed to send the then media law draft to European experts. Unfortunately, the draft was not provided to European experts then".
Belarus's information minister Uladzimir Rusakevich is not attending today's conference, which is very acute because the media situation in Belarus has deteriorated significantly.
“Given that the situation has catastrophically deteriorated, there is a need to draw attention to all the problems associated with the operation of media and speech freedom in Belarus”.
