Lawmaker predicts law turnout at Belarus polls

The parliamentary elections in the fall of 2008 can be marred by the low voters' turnout, lawmaker Volha Abramava said in an interview with Belapan news agency on Monday. She noted that the moods of the population, especially in cities, changed significantly since the abolition of social benefits. Abramava said that getting people to vote would become a serious challenge for any candidate.

The abolition of social benefits has not produced a serious influence on the raiting of the opposition. Perhaps, opposition Communists have slightly raised their raiting, Abramava said.
