Riga officials said that 25 Latvian citizens were arrested in Belarus. Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš did not specify in what period it happened. However, he noted that most of the cases were politically motivated.

Latvian authorities, as well as those of Lithuania, urge their citizens not to travel to Belarus on visa-free travel, as the law is not in force there.

"We as a country cannot help. If you go to Belarus, we cannot help you. We don't have diplomatic relations [with Lukashenka's regime] at the moment, we don't have any influence, so we won't be able [to help]," said Latvian minister.
