Kupala Drama Theater to hire foreign directors
Yanka Kupala National Theater will invite the best directors from the neighboring countries after reconstruction of the theater's building, art director Mikalai Pinihin said. Pinihin: “I will not let young directors to stage plays only because they are young. Let them show what they are capable of. Let them bring a DVD from the theaters in Babruisk, Mahilyou, Vitsebsk, Brest and show me what they have done. I'd better invite a Polish or Lithuanian director”.
He reasons his position by saying that the situation with talented drama directors in Belarus is catastrophic. "I can't see serious young drama directors in Belarus that are capable of working in this theater. The same applies to playwrights with few exceptions. I will demand quality and professionalism only", Pinihin said.
