Hunger punishment abolished in Belarus prisons

Reduced diet rations as punishment for prisoners has been abolished in Belarus. Ezhednevnik e-mewspaper reports the rations were in place since the Stalin times. Human rights activists would always describe them as tortures. There are seven rations, depending on a situation for prisoners in Belarus, including the so called ration No 7 which is applied to the prisoners punished for violating prison rules.

Under ration No 7, meat ration was cut by four time from 120g to 30g per day. At the same time, the ration of fish is increased from 50g to 75g per day. In Belarusian prisons, this means a very salty herring which makes a prisoner very thirsty.

Now this ration has been abolished.
