Heat contaminates air in cities
Experts advise not to air apartments and not to walk near highways, channels and water reservoirs.
The heat over the pasy two weeks has caused an uncrease in the level of dangerous gases in the air in big cities. The national center for radioactive control even requested large Belarusian enterprises @to reduce activity" in order to prevent further contamination of the air. Bagdan Kaziaruk, the chief of the air contamination monitoring department, hopes that this is a temporary phenomenon.
He says that some dangerous gases are always in the air especially in large cities, affecting the in first place sick people:
“Old people and those suffering from chronical diseases and children are affected the most. In this spell of extremely hot weather, the level of nitrogen dioxide has increased many times especially near highways,” Kaziaruk said.
There have been no reports yet about someone in Belarus seeking medical assistance because of the contaminated air. In order to avoid certain discomfort due to bad air, experts advises not to air your apartments and not to go the places where air is likely to be contaminated.
"We have not recorded any cases when people were complaining that they collapsed due toi contaminated air. The first thing you need to do is to leave this area as sson as possible. Don't walk near the highways. You can also put nets on your windows and try to keep them humid," the expert recommends.
