Gorbachev backs Putin: It is a good example for everyone

Almost 97% of people voted for joining Russia (according to the official statistics) at the referendum held in Crimea on March 16. Vladimir Putin and the administration of the self-declared Republic of Crimea signed the document on annexation yesterday.

Euroradio asked Mikhail Gorbachev, the last head of the Soviet Union, to give his opinion about the events:

"I think the issue was settled democratically. The main element of democracy is the people and the people made the decision… It is a good example for everyone.”

A full interview with Mikhail Gorbachev soon on Euroradio.
