EU to wait for OSCE evaluation of parliamentary elections in Belarus

The European Union is going to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Belarusian administration if the OSCE admits that the parliamentary elections appointed for September 28 are democratic.  A European diplomatic source in Brussels has informed RIA “Novosti” about it today. According to some official, the position is mentioned in the project of the resolution that is to be approved by EU Foreign Ministers from 27 EU member states today.

The position of the European Union explains the fact that the Belarusian Foreign Minister Syarhei Martnau has not been invited to the today’s meeting in Brussels (a former political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin went there). It was announced that Martynau’s visit would become possible only after the parliamentary elections in our country.

According to the diplomatic source, the EU is considering the opportunity of letting Belarus join the European policy of good-neighbourly relations which would mean large-scale financial assistance.
