Charhinets to watch Elton John so that he wouldn’t infringe on morality

The civil committee for morality has advised the organizers of Elton John’s concert to pay more attention to the programme the singer is planning to present in “Minsk-Arena”. The head of “the moral commission” Mikalai Charhinets has explained to ERB what has made them worry. Charhinets: “There is a tendency in Minsk, when they tried to organize a gay pride parade and then they gathered some mob. This one is also said to be a gay or “queer”, right? However, if the organizers agree to become objects of these molesters, I can understand them”.

At the same time Charhinets insists on the fact that they have no grudge against Elton John himself, his sexual orientation and would not like to forbid the concert.

Charhinets: “If a concert is normal, it will be always welcomed. By both our commission and the public. However, if the basic code of ethics is violated, if there are actions that can corrupt children, or express disrespect for the public, we will protest for sure. We are not protesting against the concert. We are just attracting the organizers’ attention to the fact that they should get acquainted with the programme. And that’s it! This way. Who is he… We cannot remake him and present him in “Minsk-Arena” in another way. We are not plumber- gynecologists”.
According to him, members of the commission did not look through Minsk posters on purpose – they do not try to find out who is going to arrive and what their sexual orientation is, they just react to citizens’ appeals. Charhinets says that about 10 people have phoned them and expressed anxiety that Elton John may infringe on Belarusians’ morality.
