BHC urges Council of Republic to revision law “On mass media”

The Belarusian Helsinki Committee has urged the Council of the Republic to revision the project of the law “On mass media’. As we informed, it will be discussed in the National Assembly on Saturday. The project was adopted by the House of Representatives in the second reading earlier.
The BHC claims that the adoption of this law is impossible without a public discussion and taking the opinion of the interested people and organizations into account.

"The law is meant to regulate relations in an important sphere of life but it was elaborated and discussed by the Parliament without any participation of the society and the interested organizations”, - is said in the BHC’s appeal.  – The government claimed it was going to send the project of the law to the EC Parliamentary Assembly for an expertise but it did not happen”.

Copies of the BHC’s appeal have been sent to international structures including PACE, informs BelaPAN.
