Belarusians mark Day of Belarusian Military Glory in Warsaw
A festive manifestation dated for the anniversary of the Belarusian victory in the Battle of Orsha took place in Warsaw on September 8.
Participants of the event holding white-red-white flags and
national symbols gathered near the monument to Charles de Gaulle in the
center of the Polish capital at 5 p.m. and organized a manifestation to
the memory nameboard of General Stanisław Bułak-Bałachowicz.
The action was organized by the “Belarusian National Memory” association for the fourth year on end.
One of the organizers of the action Anatol Mihnavets said:
"We
have gathered to commemorate Belarusian warriors, those who protected
their Motherland with the help of weapon on September 8, 1515. We are
going to organize a traditional manifestation from the monument to
Charles de Gaulle towards the place where a Belarusian warrior
Bułak-Bałachowicz died”.
The
manifestation was initiated by students of Kastus Kalinowski programme.
However, Belarusians living in Warsaw and Poles supporting us in our
struggle for independence also came there.
According
to Anatol Mihnavets, it is necessary to change the format of the event
as fewer and fewer people take part in such manifestations every year.
The present commemorated Belarusian warriors with a minute’s silence near the nameboard of Bułak-Bałachowicz and listened to Anatol Mihnavets who described Belarusian military traditions.
