Belarusian village of Khatyn was burnt down with inhabitants 65 years ago

Today is the 65th anniversary of the day when a Belarusian village of Khatyn was burnt down by the 118th police battalion created in Ukraine.
Members of the punitive expedition surrounded the village, made all its inhabitants enter a cattle-shed and then set it on fire. Those who managed to escape were shot from machine-guns. 149 people including 79 children died. All the 26 village houses were also burnt down.

A memorial complex “Khatyn” was opened on the site of the tragedy in 1969 as a reminder about hundreds of Belarusian villages burnt down by the Nazi.
