Belarus beef arrested in Russia

The Russian agriculture control authorities in Pskov region detained two trucks that were carring 1.5 tons of beef from Belarus.

The vehicles were detained allegedly on the grounds that it was an illegal import of the Belarusian meat to the territory of the Russian Federation. Besides, the trucks were not equipped with freezers, had no documents about the meat producer and had no clearance from the Belarus's sanitary authorities.

Another vehicles was detained in Belgorod region of Russia, while carrying 7.5 tons of beef from a Belarusian butchery that had no permit for the export of meat to Russia.

In March 2007, only three Belarusian meat-processing factories were granted permits by the Russian sanitary experts for the export of meat to Russia. This week, 13 more meat producers from Belarus were issued permits for the export of meat to Russia, according to telegraf.by.
