Authorities in Brest ban picket to collect signatures for Nyaklyayeu

Brest City Hall today rejected an application from local activists of Tell the Truth! campaign to stage a picket in support of campaign leader Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu. "We planned to collect signatures on August 15 for nominating Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu as a delegate to the All People's Congress. Today, I received a letter from Brest City Hall, rejecting our application on the grounds that the venue we had requested was different from Budaunik Stadium. This stadium is the only place in Brest where mass events are allowed under the law", activist Uladzimir Vuyek told European Radio for Belarus.

Tell the Truth! campaign activists wanted to collect signatures on a busy street near Central Mall. The Budaunik Stadium is a remote venue in the sleeping suburbs.
