Arkadz Smolich Street may appear in Minsk
A street named after Arkadz Smolich (1891-1938) may appear in Minsk. Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) has suggested commemorating the scientist and activist of the national renaissance. The suggestion has been registered, official replied. A special commission will decide whether to name a new street or rename an existing street after Smolich.
Member of the Belarusian National Hramada and Minister of Agriculture of the Belarusian National Republic Arkadz Smolich was born 125 years ago on September 29. He is known for his Belarusian geography books. Smolich was repressed by the Soviet authorities and was posthumously exonerated.
