15 reasons to tempt you to visit Jazz-Koktebel 2010

A cult Ukrainian jazz festival will begin in 24 days so we have decided to phone several famous amateurs of Jazz-Koktebel and Koktebel – the land of cognac - to find out why those people love the city and the festival so much. Our interlocutors mentioned 15 reasons tempting to visit Jazz-Koktebel 2010. The founder of a radio station “Talking tomatoes”, a straight-out Minsk hitch-hiker, company-keeper Papa Pomidor says that he has never felt tired or bored at parties in Koktebel in six years:

“You should go to Koktebel to listen to good music! But this is not the only reason. An incredible mixture of music, sun, the sea, mountains and splendid audience are waiting for you. The audience is a special thing. Everyone loves each other and it is true! Love affairs happen there all the time!

However, there are some setbacks. Unfortunately, the organizers have been promising to build a camping for those who travel on their own for several years, but it has not been done do far. It creates some tension as it is not clear where to put up tents as new buildings keep appearing in Koktebel and the number of deserted places is decreasing.

Light does not only fill people there, you feel sheer delight because of the happiness you experience in Koktebel”.

The person considered to be a cult musician and artist of Koktebel  - Ihar lyahau-  says that people should visit Koktebel not only for the festival:

“An incredibly beautiful Indian summer is expected this September. Koktebel is a wonderful place not only because of its nature but also because of some unknown force attracting creative intellectuals here. Furthermore, there is this festival!”.

That is why you can feel the olden time here. We have River Stix and the Kara Dag mountain here. Valoshyn wrote that the entrance to the other world was located there. Of course, there is something huge in the sky over Koktebel. It is true”.

One of the organizers of the festival, Andrei Slabinski, knows musical Koktebel’s secrets better than anyone. He has eagerly told us what to expect at the festival in September:

“There will be two stages with musical programmes! One of them will be called “Valoshyn’s” and it will present modern jazz and improvisation. The best European, Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian bands will perform there.

The main stage will be called “Nude-jazz” as it will be located on a nudist beach. So, do not be surprised if you see nudists nearby. 10 thousand people will gather near that stage and concerts will be given in the evening and at night. It will be a venue for wonderful people.

We have also organized pastime for everyone. There will be bars for those who like alcohol, special “creativity” spots, and so-called “art-studios” for smokers. Non-smokers will not be allowed to enter there. A lot of interesting activities will be performed in that area.

There will be a territory of “conscious life” for those who neither drink nor smoke and there will be a lot of curious things there too.

By the way, the number of policemen hardly exceeds 1.5 people in Koktebel. So, the Jazz-Koktebel festival is a territory of freedom. All people behave without being controlled by “the Big Brother”.
