Potential presidential contender Viktar Babaryka on 18 June was detained in Minsk along with his son Eduard who heads his campaign headquarters. The Babarykas are being interrogated at the Financial Investigation Department. Lawyers were refused access to the building.

Babaryka's lawyer Dzmitry Layeuski says he has no information about why his client would have to be detained. 

Sputnik.by reports Viktar Babaryka's house near Minsk is being searched by law-enforcement agents.

On 18 June, Babaryka's campaign team said that 425 000 signatures were collected to support his nomination as a presidential candidate. 150 000 signatures have already been filed with the electoral commissions.
