Opposition activist Mikalai Statkevich regrets that the committee created for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian People’s Republic (BNR) has not managed to preserve its unity. “It is a pity since I was sure that we would stay united and would get the permission to organize both the concert and the manifestation,” Statkevich told Euroradio on air. “It means that we will have to ask for everything in parts.”

A group of members of the organizing committee applied for a concert and meeting in front of the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Minsk on March 25 and thus refused from the manifestation not long ago. The authorities agreed. However, only 4 out of 13 organizations having members in the committee sent that application to the authorities, Statkevich stressed.

“We will apply for a manifestation… We want everything to be legal and to be a real holiday,” Statkevich noted.
