Daniel Holtgen, spokesperson for the Secretary General of the Council of Europe has commented on it on Twitter: “We condemn another execution in Belarus, as reported by rights defenders. Death is no justice. We reiterate our call on the authorities to impose a moratorium on the application of deathpenalty as the first step towards its abolition.”

Head of the PACE group of socialists Frank Schwabe commented on the statement: “It shows that the decision to let Belarus host the European Games was a mistake at the very beginning. This event is a farce.”

Alyaksandr Zhylnikau was sentenced to death for double slaying. Information about his execution appeared on June 13, Euroradio reported earlier. The other convict is Vyachaslau Suharka. His fate is unknown but people involved in the same case usually get executed at the same time, rights defenders say.
