Alyaksandr Lukashenka discussed the parliamentary election date with CEC chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna on July 30. Yarmoshyna suggested conducting the election of members of the Council of the Republic on November 7 and of the House of Representatives – on November 17. Lukashenka asked “to elaborate on the suggestion by Monday” and prepare decrees containing exact dates. “The election campaign will start on August 5,” BELTA quotes the CEC chairperson.

The presidential election will be held next year, Alyaksandr Lukashenka reminded. He recalled the forecasts of some ‘would-be experts’ who expected both the presidential election and the parliamentary election to be held in 2019. “They thought that [Lukashenka] would quietly conduct the presidential election to take the position and to stay in power for long,” the President said. “This is a mistake. As I promised, everything will be done according to the law and the Constitution.”
