International book exposition opens in Minsk

The XXIII International book exposition will open in the exhibition centre Belexpo (Winners Avenue, 14) in Minsk on February 10. 29 countries including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Syria, Iran, Venezuela, Israel, Ukraine, Russia and the USA will be represented there.  

 

Almost 300 exhibitors will show new books there. About 200 events including book presentations and meetings with literary men will be organized. The indicative events of 2016 will be reflected at the exhibition– the 70th anniversary of the UN, 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, Belarusian writers and poets’ anniversaries – Maksim Bahdanovič, Ivan Shamyakin, Kandrat Krapiva and Ivan Melezh.

 

Independent Belarusian publishing houses will participate in the exhibition – Goliath, Arche and Technology. LohvinaŬ has not even applied for participation because its previous there applications were declined. Svetlana Alexievich’s books published by the Russian publishing house Chas will also be displayed there.

 

10 203 books and brochures were published in Belarus last year.
