Handball club supporting Alena Leuchanka suspended

On October 1, the Belarusian Handball Federation suspended the Vityaz-Leon handball club from participation in the championship and the Cup of Belarus, the results of the matches are canceled. The federation refers to the regulations providing for the removal of the team from the championship for failure to appear at the match. As Euroradio reported earlier, on September 30, due to the arrest of basketball player Alena Leuchanka, the Vityaz-Leon club announced that it would not play against the Masheka team. “The Vityaz handball club considers the arrest of Alena Leuchanka illegal. Thus we do not have a moral right to play today".
The handball players wrote that they deliberately did this to "protest against lawlessness and violent pressure on the citizens of Belarus".
