Ex-political prisoner Zmitser Paliyenka has been fined 980 roubles (40 base amounts). The decision was pronounced by Minsk's Zavodski District Court judge Nastassya Asipchyk. The young man was returned guilty of disobedience to the police, the human rights website Viasna reports.

Paliyenka refused to attend preventive lectures at the police office. He had to attend them almost every day.

The first hearing was appointed for December 6 but the case was sent back for further investigation. The second hearing was appointed for 13 December. Paliyenka did come but the hearing was cancelled. The activist was given a subpoena obliging him to come the next day but he refused to do it. Policemen in plain clothes came to his flat on the morning of 14 December and took him to court.

Three administrative cases were started against Paliyenka for his refusal to attend preventive lectures. One more hearing will be held on December 19.
