In March, 1,197 people left the IT industry in Belarus. This did not happen either in the protest year of 2020 or in the pre-war year of 2021, the naszyhroszy media reports.

The number of people employed in IT has been steadily growing over the past 10 years, while the total number of people employed in the economy of Belarus was declining (by about 9%). The number of IT specialists increased by 70% over the same period. By the end of 2021, there were 141 thousand of them.

The authors of the media outlet noted that, apparently, the turning point was the start of Russia's war against Ukraine, Belarus' complicity in this campaign and the imposition of sanctions against Belarus and Russia.

These sanctions lead to the outflow of specialists which will continue and, most likely, even accelerate. "The so-called reputation is at work as fewer companies are willing to risk it and cooperate with partners from Russia and Belarus," the media writes.
