Belarus 'borrowed' $2.3bn in 2018

In 2008 Belarus "borrowed" 2 billion 353.8 million US dollars. The biggest chunk of the money came from the government and banks of Russia -- $ 879 million. Chinese banks loaned Belarus $ 509.2 million, according to the Belarusian Ministry of Finance's press office.

Last year, the state debt of Belarus grew by 3.2 billion Belarusian rubles (by 7.6%). As of January 1, 2019, it was $ 45.4 billion. In 2018, the external public debt increased by $ 0.2 billion (1%) to $ 16.9 billion, the internal public debt decreased by 0.3 billion rubles (3.1%). At the beginning of this year it was 8.9 billion rubles.

Last year, $ 1 billion 997.3 million was spent to offset the existing debt.
